Home-made BBQ Sauce is for those who are big on creating new flavours
and really like to cook differently.
This is not mixing ready ingredients into a dish, this is creating a dish.
Who does not love a good dollop of BBQ sauce over their steak? Maybe even in their steak sandwich, or as a marinade for meats before they hit the grill? Did you know that BBQ sauce is one of the most used and best loved sauces in the world? Apparently it is and I must say, I am not surprised as I for one think it is delicious. If you like BBQ sauces, you are going to love this recipe, so read on and enjoy :)
I can simply tell you facts;
Most ready-to-use, store-bought BBQ sauces are not exactly healthy, as most of those contain high quantities of corn syrup, fructose, preservatives, chemical flavourings....etc. Endless, is the list of risky foods bottled in these tempting little pretty bottles of BBQ sauce.But of course you will be bored and most probably won't take notice! Or I can simply tell you facts;
Store-bought BBQ sauces are no way near the good flavours of home-made BBQ sauces. In fact, making your own BBQ sauce allows you to create a uniquely flavoured sauce each time. Yes that is true! BBQ sauces do not have to taste the same every time, nor do they have one flavour or recipe. They can be really anything, from mild, to spicy to sweet, smokey, to fruity and even bold and herbed.... It can be anything as long as it combines a sweet, savoury and slightly sour profile, it will belong to the category of BBQ sauces.Whatever I tell you, won't be enough to convince you that making your own sauces, creating your dishes from scratch and Going Organic always results in amazing food experiences in terms of flavour and overall experience. The only way that you will be turned is by experience, and I aim to give you as many chances to experience home-made and organic goodness as I possibly can, because I am confident that once you do, you will never look back.
Since We are talking #GoOrganic,
a big part of going organic is cooking at home and cooking real food, using real ingredients. This not only results in fabulous food but is also a way to #GoOrganic on a budget. You see, using prepared, ready-to-use organic food is more expensive than actually making the food yourself. And usually most people are concerned that going organic can be challenging to their budgets. So this is a good place to start: cooking your food using real ingredients.
If I am to describe this sauce to you I would say it is very elegantly flavoured. There is not too much of anything, not too spicy nor too bold or smokey. This recipe produces a multi-layered flavour that compliments meats without over powering them. You won't miss it, but you won't feel like it is the only flavour you can taste. I love this sauce because it is multi-purpose too. I first made it to dress my shredded beef for making Shredded Beef Tacos (recipe coming up here soon) and absolutely loved it. Then I used it as a marinade for Beef Ribs for a BBQ. I even used it for an oven roast, and it worked brilliantly every time.
So give it a try and I assure you, you will be happy you did. Get creative and use this sauce in making different meat dishes, but seriously wait till you try it with my absolutely gorgeous Shredded Beef Tacos! For now, use it to marinade any of these meat cuts ready for grilling or BBQ.
Everyone must know the cuts of meat and which part they come from. This makes your job in choosing the meat for different dishes easier and makes asking the butcher for the right cut way more easy :))

Dima's BBQ Sauce
Makes 2 cups
Use organic whenever possible
This sauce is not spicy and therefore works well for families with kids. However, feel free to add chipotle chilies (powdered or chopped) for an extra kick. Better yet try the smoked chipotle for adding a smoked flavour.
2 tbsp organic vegetable oil
1 organic brown onion, chopped
2 large organic red capsicums, roasted whole, then peeled and chopped
2 organic garlic cloves, crushed
500 g fresh organic tomatoes, peeled and pureed
1 cup home-made organic beef broth (or better home-made brown sauce)
4 tbsp organic mustard
1/4 cup organic red grape vinegar
2 tbsp Organic Cane Molasses Sugar
1/4 cup Organic Cane brown sugar
Salt & freshly cracked black pepper to taste
4 Tasmanian Pfeffer, ground (optional but really recommended)
Start by roasting the capsicums, whole, wrapped in foil paper until tender. Once done, remove from the oven and leave to stand until slightly cooled. Once cool, unwrap and peel the capsicums. Discard the seeds and roughly chop them.
In a medium bowl, mix well together the pureed tomatoes, beef broth, mustard, vinegar, sugars, ground pfeffer and seasoning.
Heat the vegetable oil, in a medium saucepan and saute the chopped onion and garlic until translucent. Add the the tomato mix and stir to incorporate. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium-low. Leave to simmer uncovered for 40 minutes or until reduced and thickened.
Once done, remove from the heat and blend the sauce to smooth. The sauce is now ready to use as a condiment or marinade. Keep any extra sauce refrigerated in a clean, airtight container for up to 1 week.
