Dubai's Favourite Shakshooka - The Baker & Spice Shakshooka Recipe

Dubai's Favourite Sahkshooka by Baker & Spice

Every city you go to you find the local residents raving about a specific place, food or specialty. In Dubai everyone raves about Baker & Spice's Shakshooka. This saucy, flavour-packed absolutely delicious Shakshooka is the talk of the town. People have it for breakfast, lunch or dinner and during Ramadan, Baker & Spice even have dedicated Shakshooka Nights! Yup, it is that good.

The best thing about this Shakshooka, is that it is made from scratch, using seasonal local produce which already means the basic ingredients are superior in taste. All components, such as the tomato sauce for instance are home-made, from scratch using the wonderful local tomatoes. The same applies to the labneh, green tahini sauce, the bread it is served with and all the other basic ingredients. Tasting this shakshooka is really proof that when you use the better option ingredients (seasonal, local and organic) all food ends up tasting much better than any other made using 'settled-for' ingredients.

It is worth mentioning here that Baker & Spice prepare, can and sell home-made sauces (including Ketchup), jams and preserves that are all organic, local and seasonal. If you do not have the time to prepare these at home, then head to any Baker & Spice (Al Manzil, Souk Al Bahar or Dubai Marina) and buy these there. It makes all the difference to your cooking when you buy such good quality components, because when the base ingredients are good you can hardly ever produce bad food! While you are at it, they also have a variety of fabulous home-baked breads to choose from as well as cookies, and a selection of desserts too. Oh and that is besides the amazing spread of seasonal Salads, which really are what I go there for, unmatched!

This recipe here is just one of the variations of shakshooka that Baker & Spice offer, as they have options such as (my absolute fave) the green shakshooka (with zucchini) which I recommend you go and try too, Divine! Take Yael's advise and carry out a shakshooka with whatever you have at hand. Don't restrict yourself with a recipe, instead make sure to use from-scratch home-made local and seasonal ingredients and you too shall make 'talk of the town' shakshooka.

Watch the video below and see how Shakshooka is made at Baker & Spice. Give this recipe a try, you are going to absolutely love it. Shakshooka is an excellent choice for Suhoor, and as you can see it can be whipped up in no time.

To her Shakshooka Yael added, her favourite extras: Home-made local Labneh and green Tahini sauce, local organic kale, and a drizzling of olive oil. These are of course add ons but really make all the difference to the whole experience. Everyone has favourite flavours, so go ahead and add your own signature flavours and make Shakshooka yours ;)

Baker & Spice Dubai
are doing it for themselves. The main driver is the quest for taste, quality and context. Scratch Making, Scratch Baking – the “new” buzz words for all things genuine and artisan, are the beating heart of the business.

"We have a long tradition of making things ourselves, rather than just buying in, and are constantly pushing the boundaries to develop and refine our recipes." Describes Yael.

"Baker & Spice is making food from scratch: we make our own sausages, dry-cure bresaola, home cure fresh fish. We jam, curd, chutney, pickle and preserve, and bake all our daily bread using original recipes and traditional artisan methods. We run like a home kitchen, using only raw ingredients, inspired daily by the fresh produce to hand. Local and regional seasonal produce features in the dishes we serve. Every day brings something different to the table. During the local growing season (November – April) produce is picked for us early in the morning at local farms and is in our kitchen by midday."
