Perhaps one of the most popular grill options in Arabic cuisine. For sure a very popular Arabic street food option. Definitely the number one choice for Arabic BBQ menus. We love these skewered meat cubes BBQ’ed or even grilled in the oven. We would normally serve them with a variety of salads to include Fattoush, Tabbouleh, potato salad alongside a variety of mezze options: Hummus, Mutabbal, Allayet Bandora…etc. and they will go beautifully with the roasted tomato recipe on this link.

These grilled meat skewers offer you a healthy, light and very satisfying dinner option, you don’t really have to wait for BBQ season, grill them in the oven during cold/hot times. Super easy, fast to prepare, simple and absolutely delicious.

I have included for you a potato salad recipe video too so you get that fast, easy and delicious dinner sorted!



  • 1Kg Lamb or beef tenderloin, cubed
  • 3 tbsp DS Premium Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp DS Meat & Poultry Spice Mix
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • DS Pink Himalayan Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • a few sprigs of rosemary, chopped
  • 1 Red Capsicum, cut into squares the size of the meat cubes (optional)
  • 1 Yellow Capsicum, cut into squares the size of the meat cubes (optional)
  • 1 Green Capsicum, cut into squares the size of the meat cubes (optional)
  • 1 packet red pearl onions (baby onions, optional)

Preferably 4 hours ahead (only if your time permits), in large bowl, mix the olive oil, vinegar, crushed garlic, chopped rosemary, spices and seasoning together until well combined. Add the cubed meat and mix to coat all. Cover the bowl with nylon wrap and refrigerate.

After marinating for a few hours, skewer the meat on small skewers, alternating meat cubes with capsicum and baby onions (if using). Repeat until all quantity is skewered. Refrigerate until ready to grill.

You can BBQ the skewers as is over charcoal. Otherwise you can grill them in the oven.


To Grill these skewers in the oven:

Preheat your oven to very high.

Place a wire rack over a roasting tray and place the skewers over the wire rack and grill in the preheated oven to the desired doneness. About 5 minutes for medium rare and 8 minutes for medium well. Make sure to rotate the skewers once midway.

Remove from the oven and cover loosely with foil paper, then leave to sit for 3-4 minutes. Transfer to serving dish and serve alongside your desired side dish.
