A very famous Arabic Mezze

Crunchy on the outside with a chewy cheese melt on the inside! What else needs to be said about this wonderful appetiser?! Cheese Rolls are great on their own, with dips and are a delicious accompaniment to soups and salads.

This is a cheese treat that is just music to your palate you will be making lots of them! Super easy, super fast; here is how they are made…

For the cheese Filling

For pastry variation you can use puff pastry, wonton wraps or make your own Sambousek dough. You can even go with different fillings, such as cheese and spinach, cheese and walnuts, or cheese and mint leaves… it all depends on how you want to serve them and if you are pairing them with a soup or a salad then consider how the over all flavours work together.

In a bowl mix all filling ingredients together.

Cut the pastry sheets into small rectangles. Place 1 tbsp of filling in the middle of the pastry rectangles. Fold over the sides of the pastry and then roll them into cigars. Deep fry the rolls in hot oil till golden. Serve hot.

For a healthier option

Slightly spray a baking tray with oil; arrange rolls on the prepared tray and spray or brush them lightly with some oil. Bake for 15 minutes in hot oven or until golden.
