In today’s world it seems we need to be supernatural to remain healthy!
Some are going organic others are becoming vegetarian, some are vegan, others are raw when some are even ‘vegan raw’… While the words could have slight differences in definition, one thing is in common for sure: they all started because of a need. Yes to some these are “buzzwords”, “fashion and style statements”, “food trends”, “the food of the rich”, “the thoughts of the ‘worryless’ …. so many descriptions!
However, you guessed wrong, because while some may be following “trends” and making “fashion statements” by pretending to adopt this kind of lifestyle; others actually live the lifestyle out of a deep belief in its philosophy – or so I don’t risk using off-putting “fancy” words such as ‘philosophy’, let me say: “the thought behind the lifestyle” instead!
What is that need?
To some it’s animal welfare, and the cruelty behind thinking that we own the food chain, and thus entitled to do whatever we please. To others it is today’s ‘modern’ food industry, with all its terrible practices (from the use of chemicals, hormones, GMO’s, antibiotics, pink slime… etc.) which are forcing us to ingest hazardous substances without allowing us to choose. Then there are those who believe in people, and who do not agree to the working conditions of the humans working for big corporations, where wages are minimal, respect is absent, health is not covered, work conditions are risky/dangerous….etc. If you stop to think of it really, you will find that this (the state of our food today, and the practices in the food industry) are in fact affecting all aspects of our lives.
Today, the most average of people would tell you, “we are no longer as healthy as our grandparents used to be.” and most will mention the fact that ‘our food is not the same’ as a contributing factor to that statement.
Chef Hayley Mac, is one of those who have adopted such challenging lifestyles. She is a dedicated 100% vegan, raw followers. So much so that even her shoes are vegan! (all the respect to you Hayley) because she, unlike the labels above, believes in her lifestyle and became one because of what she describes as a necessity. I will not describe more about why Hayley chose to become 100% raw vegan as well as to create a 100% contamination-free kitchen, I will let her tell you and explain to you how a butcher’s daughter, who grew up eating meat and having no problems with it, changed her lifestyle to vegan raw!
Watch Chef Hayley Mac in the video below as she tells you her take while preparing a health super-charged Vegan Raw Zucchini Pasta with Walnut Pesto 🙂
